Courtney:
Veronika doesn’t really care that much about clothes, but her parents would be mad if she just let him get away with that.
OH HEY CASUAL VERONIKA I wonder if that might hint at what’s coming. I certainly would hate to draw her have her running around in a big dress!
Also, sorry for delays on this page. It took a lot out of me for some reason. Interviews and job search stress have been doing that too. But there’s a dear friend of mine and reader of this comic who has it a lot worse than me today; she’s losing a beloved dog. Out of privacy I won’t reveal her name but I’m sure she would appreciate some kind words if you would like to leave them.
Wait, Veronika’s parents?
I… That raises many questions. Like what those guards were smoking when they just let Sharky McGee prance into the throne room.
Look, I’m sorry, but ‘prance’ is the only way to describe Skarva’s gait in the second panel.
The king and queen! You don’t think she actually runs this kingdom, do you? She probably wouldn’t be as bored then.
Really, because I was thinking “frolic”.
A frolicking shark that carries women’s luggage around for them. That perfectly describes Skarva.
You put it that way, he almost sounds like a really nice guy!
‘Frolic’ is a little undirected; you frolic around a meadow, you prance down a hallway. Plus ‘prance’ is a little bouncier, and it makes it so much funnier to imagine he’s high-stepping his way into the castle.
Can we meet in the middle and call it skipping?
I really love her casual outfit.
(Also, what kind of reaction it ‘Dang it’ to a sharkman just waltzing into your kingdom. How often does he do this that they’re so desensitized.)
Very efficient.
Does Skärva actually think that all her clothes would be able to fit in three suitcases?
Nice paintings.
The only one who every actually uses that door properly is Skärva.
And Derk is just there going ‘hi again!’.
Yeah sure the guard can see Skärva’s kidnappings coming a mile away, but it’s not like they can do anything about it. Not even warning the princess this time.
All fear Veronika’s… purple indifference?
He didn’t knock, so how is that proper door handling? She could have been in her pants! Wait…
Thous are some nice bird paintings. But what is that one on top left a picture of?
It’s two birds in a nest. The darkest blobs are the birds.
The red bird looks like Kazooie.
I’ve been waiting for someone to catch my off-model breegull. Keen eye.
He just…rushes off like the gingerbread man. You’re not 10, Skarvs.
…*reads description and cries hhhhh*
Run run run as fast as you can, you can’t catch me, I’m TOWEL MAN
I’d say his father would be ashamed, but we all know it’d be quite the opposite. “You have fun, boy! *wipes tear*”
*big hugs forever and ever… you know how to contact me if you need to*
Veronika: Sorry mom, I gotta be kidnapped again. He took all my dresses and all I have are my sweat clothes.
Or you guards/soldiers could do what you get paid for.
But pouting and walking away is so much easier! The job’s gonna get done anyways…
I meant to ask this before: Are magical items innately magical, or do they act as a sort of conduit, drawing magic from the user? I don’t remember if that was covered in the “Magic” encyclopedia entry…
This should help you a bit. Some magic items require the user to have their own magical skill to activate them, while others are able to function by drawing from the magic present in every living being (even if said being cannot consciously control it). It depends on the type of spell cast on the object to begin with. An extreme example is that Blank cannot use sorcery on his own, but can activate ancient magical items because of his blessing from the gods.
Best guards ever.
That face on the last panel cracked me up.
Losing a loved one is a painful experience. They were in your life for both good and bad. By staying by you, they have changed your life in many ways; you wouldn’t be who you are now without your intertwining paths. It can be very painful to have one pulled from your path, but just remember that they made an impact that will forever be with you and that impact is their legacy through you. You have my deepest condolences.
Thank you so much for your words. It means a lot to me, really.
Did Skarva just teleport her baggage or make it invisible?
Teleported it to the castle (…HIS castle) where it will be waiting for her. What a gentleman!
Aren’t teleportation spells too hard to do, or is that just only with spiritual beings?
Oh, he teleports things all the time. Most of the times when he gets something to appear (like the Bucket of Deluges) he’s not just creating it out of thin air but summoning it from another place. In order to teleport something, you just need to know where it is currently located and where you want it to end up; it’s a fairly simple spell, although it gets harder with the size of the object and the distance it must move. Teleportation is only off limits with living things; because magic IS consciousness and vice versa, so you’d be using magic to transport magic. In theory it’s not impossible, but is extremely complicated and inherently risky.

Has Skarva ever tried kidnapping the king and/or queen for variety? (Or if he really wants to shake things up kidnapping Blank before he has gathered his upgrade items, leading to Blank’s Quest 5, Escape from the Dungeon of the Shark Lord?)
Nah, the princess is actually more beloved by the kingdom as a whole. And she’s a lot more tolerable than that snooty king or queen would be. Maybe it’s just her general unphasable nature but she and Skarvs get along pretty well, considering.
And kidnapping Blank is just a disaster waiting to happen.
Will we ever get to see Veronika’s parents? They don’t seem to prevent Skarva from kidnapping their daughter, so they are probably bad parents.
From Veronika’s general attitude one might assume they’re not the greatest parents for multiple reasons. We might introduce them some day, but unlike some characters I can’t wait to show you guys eventually, they’re not terribly important or likable.
Veronika in workout clothes, I wonder what action scenes are coming up…
