Skärva just left the stove on. This has nothing to do with Blank.

There’s nothing wrong with a little exposition.
Altermentality:
Sorry the comic is a bit late again guys, me and Victor were on a band trip this weekend. Anyway, if you’re reading this comic, let us know you’re out there! We appreciate comments SO MUCH and I love talking to you all.
Also someone once said that our comic was a bit too wordy sometimes and Victor took it to heart, so he made panel 4.
It seems Blank already has fire spells.
Does that mean he’ll have an easier time in Frostbite Fortress now?
Dangit!
Frostbite Fortress is probably melted to the ground right now.
Absolutely nothing wrong with a bit of exposition! It’s how a writer makes known the world his characters are in. In a “wordy” comic, the exposition just needs to be turned into some of the thousand words that pictures represent where possible.
Man, party hard Skarva!
Burn baby burn! Disco inferno!
I’m guessing he didn’t have enough “powe” from the gods?
Oh my gods it was a rough night last night. Usually I proofread everything I ever type like five times, that just tells you how I was feeling. Actually last night I felt like Skärva in the last panel. I’ll fix it later.
I’m sorry to hear that. Honestly, updating this 3 times a week on top of college sounds pretty hard… Yet you two haven’t missed an update yet! Bless you both!
Thank you! Yeah, it’s a lot of work but it’s actually one of the things that keeps me going. It’s the kind of work that gives you very obvious rewards and pride with a quick return, something I can’t say about my mountains of required reading.
lol MOAR “POWE”
See my reply to 13lackout
i hope u dont mind me asking but who is ur favorite fan??
another thing, do u have a “The Fourth” fan art group on DA?
Not yet, and if it ever happens I won’t be the one to create it, as that would be rather self-centered
This one.
Na Na Na Na Na Na Na Na BAT FAN!
….I really wish I could say I had thought of that myself.
that is a nice fan tho :/
im still reading, i just can’t ever think of anything clever to say so i don’t comment. love this comic and look forward to it every M W F.
No problem
Thank you for sticking with us!
Add another reader to the list. ^_^
I’m thoroughly enjoying your comic – the art style is fun, the writing is consistently amusing writing and the characters are enjoyable to watch. ^_^
On a side note, since I’m commenting (I imagine that I would most likely not have brought it up if not for the general request for comments), would you be interested in a minor critique and suggestion regarding one of the effects in this page? Don’t worry if you’re rather not – if you’d rather I not bring anything up, then fair enough. ^_^
Thank you very much!
It’s just going to get better and better…
Oh, please tell me. I’m always looking for ways to improve. I’ve made a lot of progress in just the past few months; if there’s anything that seems off, the sooner someone catches it and isn’t afraid to tell me, the better.
Fair enough. ^_^
Please note that I’m tired as I type this, so please forgive me if the below is not my best explanation. ^^;
The effect that bothers me is the fire in the last panel. While I recognise that it is intended to be fire, I find that it nevertheless doesn’t seem to sit comfortably with me.
I think that the main problem is that, as depicted here, it looks very much particulate. Fire, I feel, is fluid and often ragged (perhaps especially such a blaze as you seem to have there!). I’m inclined to suggest representing it as such: perhaps a fluid outline and main fill of the flames in orange with yellow being used to provide detail, either via “flames within the fire” or more chaotic structures, and ragged flames breaking free in places?
I’m not sure that I’ve explained that sufficiently; if I had my tablet I’d likely try to show you what I mean, but alas, I believe that I left that on another continent… ^^;
If you like, I think that I can put something together using my mouse.
By the way (again :P), what is your policy on fan-art?
Thank you. In fact I usually do fire a bit differently, but this time I wanted to try out a different style, something that looks more solid and intense and cel-shaded, but if you don’t think it worked out then I’m glad you told me so. Usually I do fire more like what you see in the second panel. I think I grasp what you’re saying because it’s usually more what I try to go for, just again, I was trying out some stylized fire here.
My policy is that every time someone does it I have immense joy. As long as they link back to the comic so other people will know what the heck is going on (also because, you know, advertising is good). We plan to set up a fanart gallery here on the site eventually, once we have a bit more to show, although there has been some already that we greatly appreciate.
Hmm… The fire in the page that you linked to isn’t quite what I mean, I don’t think; what I had in mind would, I believe, be rather solid (ironically, given my comments about fire being “liquid” :P).
In particular, I’m envisaging a solid-colour back for the flames – “cartoon fire” of a sort, I suppose. I’m travelling at the moment, so it may take me a few days to get to it, but perhaps I should try to show you what I mean, unless you would prefer that I didn’t.
As to your fan-art policy, I’m glad to read it. ^_^
Yes!! I was hoping to hear some good ol’ fashioned monologuing! And I see that it still gets the same ol’ results. :/ Poor Skärva. I hope everyone got out OK!
Well, the minions can respawn, a very helpful natural talent of their race. As for Derk and Lorelei, they won’t have run while Boss/Mr. Skärva is still inside…
lol, or skarva should change up the rules so he cant find the sword pieces of stabbing..PS
is it like some cool glowy (the act of glowwing) weapon when its finished?
Is that the woman from the time they went to Frostbite Fortress running with her head on fire?the one whos brother works at Skarva’s Castle?
……and the ReCAPTCHA phrase of the day is,drum roll please”……….Work Lizanizi!words to live by my friends, stay cool…….
I don’t think it’s too wordy at all. That’s one of the reasons I read The Fourth, there’s a lot going on.
Why thank you. :3 In fact, my original idea was to try and write a novel, with some illustrations, about a game villain and his struggles… but Victor convinced me a comic was more suited to the material and would better reach its target audience. Still though, especially once we get into backstories and the history of Idenau and such, there’s a lot we need to communicate. But we’ll try to use pictures whenever possible. The idea here was to emphasize the generic complexities of Skärva’s plan, etc… it didn’t really need to be shown.
Just occurred to me that 20 hours later was a reference to the average length of games of this type and nobody commented on it, well done
Yes THANK YOU. Maybe some day people inspecting the archives will get it, too.
The gods don’t like you, remember?
