She’s a Pirate

Goldgills is just too much of a sweetie, I can’t stand it.
Questions for Wednesday! Give us some!
Do you imagine Cyril’s song sounded a bit like this?

Oh lord, Skærva HAS gone crazy.
He called Cyril’s music sweet.
Having secured my spot at the top, it’s time for more comments!
Cyril is so excited that someone ACTUALLY wants him to play them a song. Been expecting that since the bar, really. Apparently he plays Pirate music?
Lorelei is almost as excited as Cyril there, just missing that background. Suddenly, diplomatic relations between Pirates and Skærva have been opened.
Oh no, they confiscated Skærva’s hairbrush! Or did he teleport it back before getting arrested. Yeah, that’s more likely, and then he couldn’t teleport it back again to brush his hair because of anti-magic.
I enjoy this pirate’s coloring. That is all.
I wonder how far those cannonballs penetrate into the structure? One is apparently strong enough to blast a ‘larger than Skærva’ hole into the walls. Gotta be some strong stuff. Enough of those, and they might just bring down the house.
Peculiar mrkstve, says Captcha.
I love your comments! There are so many of them in one!
Any accordion-playing bard better learn a few pirate songs, or what’s the point, really?
Oh yeah, he got rid of the brush before the spinny-wheel thing. See here, panel 4: http://thefourthcomic.com/?comic=take-a-look-its-in-a-book Shame though, he could have used it. Even his eyebrows got unkempt!
Thanks! I’ve grown fond of him already. He’s fun to draw, if a bit complicated.
Oh lord, Skaerva HAS gone crazy.
Oh! Lord Skaerva HAS gone crazy!
And so now we have a musical scene with a mildy creepy pirate teaching a young pink-haired girl how to pirate.
This is what I’ve been waiting for!
EDIT: Link didn’t work in the original comment. I really wish we could edit these comments…
I also just found this.
I… will watch whatever that is when I get home from work
Whoa, whoa. Metal.
I’ve heard of those guys before. I’m not really into that type of music, but I feel like checking them out anyway. =P
OH
I can’t believe I wasn’t even thinking of that
Maybe subconsciously I based Lorelei off the Lazy Town girl all along.
(Awww Goldie I don’t think you’re creepy)
This is the most sparkley eyes I ever did see in this comic!
I imagine Skarva will be so proud of his little Lorelei for blasting down walls, only to find out she’s taking Pirate lessons.
How long was Skarva in there anyway? XD And hour? Does he have a phobia of jail cells or soemthing?
It might be funnier to say he’s just over-reacting. But in truth, he likes being a lord and a boss and magically powerful, and being at other people’s mercy without any magic is pretty much the worst thing. He has no power and no way to defend himself or think his way out of it. Thankfully he does have faith in Lorelei (and desperation would make him hope the best of Cyril too) or he might have completely lost it.
That, and he’s being affected by the anti-magic used in the jail, which is some pretty dangerous stuff, especially to those who are really sensitive to magic. It’s one case where having a strong magical spirit can be a detriment.
That is way more deep and logical and interesting then just “oh he’s overreacting.” I like it!
Maybe we could turn “what’s bugging Skaerva” into this week’s question, also giving us a chance to talk about what anti-magic is and does, since it’s something found in the world of Idenau but is pretty rare and not terribly important to the story overall. I’ve talked about it in comments, but most people probably missed that.
Yes! I want mroe insight and detail! 8D
Speaking of Week’s questions, is there any particular place you want questions to be put, or just in the comments?
Nah, just the comments are fine. I read all of them, as you know, so I won’t miss anything!
I would enjoy that as a question.
the last panel, oh my god I love it
Thanks!
he needs seriouse help… A A S A PLEASE
(Duck Dynasty reference LOVE THAT SHOW)
*shrug* I had no idea. I don’t watch much TV
0.0 you have never seen that show? It is only the Biggest reality TV show in AMERICA. unless you dont live in America.
Does anyone else now what im talking about????
I’ve definitely heard of it, I just didn’t watch it. Or… even know what it was about until now. I always thought it was about duck hunters or something. Now I know it’s about people who make things FOR duck hunters!
Like I said, I just don’t watch much TV but I’m especially not into reality TV.
I haven’t watched TV in months, don’t feel too bad… I just have no interest in any TV shows. Mainly because of the lack of good comedy.
Arrested Development!!
…but that’s on Netflix, does it count? Also they’re about to release new episodes of Whose Line is it Anyway. My favorite show ever
Also, are you ok man? You had a concussion?!
I dunno, I just lost interest in TV. Netflix should count, I would think of it as a TV show.
Yea, I’m fine. It wasn’t bad, just there and annoying. Fell of my bike, mostly superficial and deep bruises.
I’ve been like that for a long time, but there are a few shows I really like. Still, I couldn’t bear to watch them alone – it’s too passive; I’d feel better from drawing or playing video games. But with Victor or friends around, I’ll watch TV (usually while drawing).
Ok, I’m glad to hear that!
I love the bit with Derk and Skarva, specifically the last panel
Thanks! I love drawing slightly-crazy Skarvs. He’s going to be back to his grumpy old self soon, boo.
His hunger is to the point that they’re eating the bowls? well, I wouldn’t think this would be the first time a prisoner did that.
I’m curious what the nuts from that plant villiage have been doing since skarva’s group “liberated” the lii flower?
That’s a great question! We may not get to it this week, but we’ll keep it in mind. I’m not exactly sure, myself, so we’ll have to find out!
I was at a convention all week so I missed some comics…
But yay! Things blowing up!
Oh, I hope you had fun! Tell me about it!
Fun, yes, but it was also a bit tiring… I was at Anime Expo. I bought a lot of pins, a few posters, and a plush Flareon (as if I don’t own enough plushies… ahaha.) Also, got to meet some awesome artists and voice actors there!
In summary, lots of fun, lots of 3DS streetpasses, and lots of walking.
Yay Lorelei gets to be a pirate!!! O wait, is this a good thing or a bad thing? Well, as long as Derk gets free. And that other guy, too…
Oh it seems like fun and games until she has to get a pegleg or an eyepatch…
Oh my goodness, I love Goldgills already!
It also just hit me how… small (i guess that’s the word i want to use) Skarva is in comparison to Derk. Holy crap.
Oh yeah, most people look small compared to Derk, but Skärva is an inhuman stick. It’s all the worse when he doesn’t have his poofy sleeves on.
Ehm, also, second to last panel… To quote Derk, “Let’s get some more bowl in you.” I see Skarva’s not the only one who’s gone a little crazy.
Derk’s deeply caring nature could be a scary thing when filtered through true insanity. “Boss, you’re so thin. You have to eat. Here’s my shoe. YOU HAVE TO EAT SOMETHING, BOSS.”
Skaerva REALLY needs a hairbrush.
Speaking of which, how much does Skaerva pay attention to his looks? Is there any particular reason why he has the haircut he does? Is there any particular reason you gave him that haircut?
Also, what was Skaerva like when you first conceived him?
And does anyone call him by his first name, because Tiberius is a pretty rad name, dude.
Yeah, he would summon one if not for the anti-magic… oh, and being too crazy to notice his state. He normally cares about his hair – remember, he actually did brush it after getting into that bar brawl! I love Skaerva’s hair, and I think he cares about it a lot too, as well as his clothes – he’s not vain or conceited, but he cares about his looks to the extent that he wants to look intimidating, that a lord should look well-composed, and, well… he’s got to do the best he can with what he’s got, when his face looks like that.
There’s no real reason for his haircut… it was just the hair I gave him when I was sketching him up. I figured he would have wild hair, and as for the color, it just worked well with the rest of his color scheme, and I figured the curse would cause the family’s hair to be some non-natural color. I drew on some subconscious influences when designing the characters to make them archetypal of an evil sorcerer, brawny henchman, princess, etc. I think more than a bit of one of my favorite villains, Magus from Chrono Trigger, made its way into Skaerva. They both are blue-haired and be-caped wizards…
Also, his sideburns used to be a lot shorter but as the comic went on, I just started drawing them longer and longer without realizing it, and I like them better this way. I think I was picking up on some cues from a game I was playing at the time, Tales of the Abyss (the main character looks like this: http://www.creativeuncut.com/gallery-06/toa-luke.html )
Someday I’ll upload my very first drawing of Skaerva, but I’m saving it for a special occasion! His outfit was essentially the same minus some color alterations, but he looked way different in the face. He was more of a sharky-looking man than a full-out sharkfaced dude. But the more I practiced drawing him, the more my penchant for long pointy noses took over…
I don’t think anyone calls him Tiberius. It’s too personal for the usual respect and distance with which he likes to be treated. His family could get away with it, of course, but it’s also his father’s name… and grandfather’s, and great-grandfather’s. Derk and Lorelei are probably the only other ones, but they have their own names for him.
The pirate’s asking Cyril to play a sea shanty. I wonder what he’ll say when Cyril starts playing.
They didn’t say a word. Their screams of agony could not be deciphered.
