I’ve been thinking about this moment for a very long time, and we finally got here. I’m pretty happy with how it turned out.
By the way, I realized it was actually very hard to notice what was unique about Percy on the last page, but it’s a lot easier here. So, one more chance to guess until I just tell you

I wanted to take a moment to thank Akira Toriyama, whom the world learned passed away just a few days ago. He was great at designing so many things, from monsters to vehicles to people, as well as portraying characters who were often larger-than-life in their powers yet with personalities that anyone could aspire to and emulate, that anyone who loved any of his work seems to have ended up influenced in some way. His impact on me may not be immediately obvious, but it largely comes through Chrono Trigger, which became one of my favorite games when I first played it almost 20 years ago and has remained that way ever since. His general visual language seeped into my conception of Idenau and its sort of modern-medieval aesthetic, where people still wear tunics and capes despite existing alongside more modern trappings, and Skärva owes more (at least from me, if not Victor) to Magus than any other single character. Victor and I also became big fans of Dragon Quest eventually, although that’s been in more recent years. I know his work will continue to live on through a truly countless number of people, inspiring them to do and be their best, be it in art or just their everyday life. Thank you, Toriyama-Sensei.
I’m studying Percy so hard and yet I’m coming up dry…
If I had to guess, I’d say maybeeee…genderless? Agender? Something like that.
I love Percy’s colors though and seeing Goldie happy cry makes me wanna happy cry. :’>
Yeah, you’re close!! I’ll say you’ve got it. Percy is intersex, evidenced visually by having mostly one large spot throughout his body, but a number of smaller spots as well and a splotchier tail. She is fine with he, she or they pronouns.
Spots are the only external sexual dimorphism that salamandrians have, and I’ve wanted to make a character that refutes the strict rules for a while now. And I really like him too. I simply must get attached to every side-character I create… although she’s been in my brain for a long time and I just settled on a name recently, lol (names are hard, so when my brain fixates on one and it just feels right, I feel like that’s the character telling me what their name is. I considered a bunch of other stuff and even had something else in the script, but I didn’t really like it… and then I was like purple… pur…. percy…. and, silly as that line of thought was, it was the only thing that actually felt like it belonged :P)
